Nokia Photo Browser, the cool photo browsing applications from Nokia beta labs has been updated to a new version last week.


The new version of Nokia Photo Browser loads the thumbnail of images much faster than earlier version. There are improvements in overall performance of the application. Some of the features for Touch UI of Nokia 5800 XM.

Nokia has released a new firmware update v21.0.025, but it's available for HK phones through Nokia Software Updater (NSU). I tried on my mobile here in India, but it's now showing any updates available.


Here are few changes, people noticed after installing this firmware update on their mobile.

1.  Booting time is fast now.
2.  You can make the menu button ‘breathe’ when the phone is in standby. It will
    Flash twice if there is a missed call, message or email.
3.  No longer switches predictive text off after you’ve used the Full Screen QWERTY 
    Keyboard and gone back to the regular keypad.
4.  Applications has renamed to Apps and Music Player is now Music Plyr.
5.  During text entry pressing ‘*’ key brings up a full screen selection of 
    Characters.
6.  Some problem with web browser
7.  Overall performance of the phone is improved now.

Waiting this update for Indian 5800 users. Hope Nokia will release it soon here also.

It's a good shock to IBM today given by Oracle, when it announced to acquire Sun Microsystems. The deal is valued approximately $7.4 billion.
Here is what Oracle president Safra Catz says about this acquisition.

“We expect this acquisition to be accretive to Oracle’s earnings by at least 15 cents on a non-GAAP basis in the first full year after closing. We estimate that the acquired business will contribute over $1.5 billion to Oracle’s non-GAAP operating profit in the first year, increasing to over $2 billion in the second year. This would make the Sun acquisition more profitable in per share contribution in the first year than we had planned for the acquisitions of BEA, PeopleSoft and Siebel combined,”

According to Oracle, This acquisition will provide the most important software "Java" to Oracle. After acquisition of Sun Microsystem, Oracle becomes a major hardware player. What Oracle CEO Larry Ellision says about this agreement.

“The acquisition of Sun transforms the IT industry, combining best-in-class enterprise software and mission-critical computing systems, Oracle will be the only company that can engineer an integrated system – applications to disk – where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves. Our customers benefit as their systems integration costs go down while system performance, reliability and security go up.”

Looking forward to see the future of most popular open source database MySQL, which was recently acquired by Sun Microsystems.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is the latest hot selling from Nokia. Though it's popularity is breaking all records but at the same time, the number of complains are also rising significantly. LCD problem, the most common problem coming in many Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device including my own mobile. Check the following picture and you will know how bad experience, one can have with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.


I am facing this problem since i upgrade to latest firmware update i.e. v20. It happens very often. I am not sure, if it's some kind of hardware problem or a firmware update problem, but it's very annoying. I am a great fan of this device but there are number of such problems with this device. Hope to fix all these problems by Nokia very soon, so that our experience with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic becomes more stunning.

The current version of the game is in Alpha. In this game, you have to catch the red laser by pressing the soft buttons on the screen. See the video to know more about how it actually works.

Stopwatch is a very simple application, updated to work with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The interface of the application is also very simple with three button( Green, Yellow and Blue ). Green button starts the counter and displays hour, minutes, seconds and microseconds. Greeb button is also used to stop the counter.
The yellow button is used for time splits and output startes with letter S. Blue color button is used for the lap time and output starts with letter L.
